Milk Thistle is a herb that contains Silybum marianum that has been shown in several scientific studies to have many roles in supporting a healthy liver. It aids liver function, helps protect liver tissue from damage and supports repair of the liver. Increases antioxidant protection in healthy horses, which helps maintain healthy cells and tissues. Supports the liver in nutrient metabolism and reduces free radicals that can cause cell damage. Provides anti-inflammatory benefits, particularly at times of immune challenge (e.g. infection). Can dampen allergen hypersensitivities for example, in horses with sweet itch and improve insulin sensitivity, which may help horses with equine metabolic syndrome. Milk Thistle also supports oestrogen metabolism, helping the body to breakdown oestrogens and remove them from the body. Ideal to support your horse’s liver through periods of prescribed medication.
