At Four Hills Country, we’re quietly on a mission to bring back the soul of the old-school tack shop – the kind where you popped in for fly spray and stayed half an hour chatting about horses, hay and everything in between.

If you grew up around horses, you probably remember it well. The local tack shop wasn’t just a place to buy rugs and hoof oil. It was the unofficial hub of the horsey community – a noticeboard full of handwritten ads, someone behind the counter who actually used the products, and at least one person who had a suggestion for your horse’s latest mystery rash.

That familiar, lived-in, trustworthy feeling is what we’re building at Four Hills Country. We’ve taken the best parts of the traditional tack shop – the knowledge, the warmth, the sense of “these are my people” – and reimagined them for an online world, in a way that’s a little more organised and a lot more accessible.

Real advice from real horse people

Four Hills isn’t run from a boardroom. It’s run from a small rural base by people who live the same horse life you do – mud, early mornings, last-minute rug changes and all.

We’ve:

• mucked out in sideways rain,
• owned the horses who need rugs in July but none in December,
• bought “just one more” headcollar more times than we’d like to admit, and
• tested products in real yards, in all weathers, not just under studio lights.

That means when you ask for help, you’re not getting a script – you’re getting genuine, experience-based advice. If we think something won’t suit your horse or isn’t worth the money, we’ll say so. And if we don’t know the answer, we’ll try to find someone who does.

Whether you need last-minute rug advice, a thoughtful gift idea, or a recommendation that will actually stand up to yard life, we’re always happy to help.

In time, we’ll also be bringing back something we really miss from the old tack shop days: a modern version of the tack room noticeboard – a space for second-hand gear, part-loans, horses for sale, local services and opportunities. Because the equestrian world thrives on connection.
